Property Rules

Absolutely no open fires on the property

This includes campfires, fire pits and burning of any kind. Our mountain community lives with serious wildfire risk year-round — there are no exceptions.

Pets on a leash

Pets must be on a leash at all times while on the property. Wild animals such as mountain lions and coyotes live here too.

No firearms or air guns

Discharging firearms or air guns of any kind is not permitted.

No fireworks

Fireworks of any kind are prohibited on the property.

No illegal drugs

Illegal drugs are strictly prohibited.

Getting Around the Backcountry

The backcountry is a remote, rural environment at elevations of up to 6,000 feet. Allow plenty of time for driving mountain roads and hiking over rugged terrain.

High elevation

You’re likely to get winded much faster than normal at these higher elevations. Be extra careful during strenuous activity and drink plenty of water.

Fast-changing weather

Weather can change quickly, and sudden storms are common in summer. Bring raingear and a hat, and wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots. Snowfall is common in winter and makes the road more dangerous — check the forecast and travel advisories before coming.

Heat & hydration

High temperatures are common in summer but can occur year-round. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure without enough fluids. Adults need two quarts of water per day, and four quarts or more for strenuous activity at high elevation.

Limited services & signal

Facilities like gas stations and public restrooms are very limited. You can’t always count on cell service or GPS. Carry a forest recreation map, topographic maps and guides, and get advice from experienced backcountry travelers.

Hiking & exploring

Whenever you hike, backpack or explore — any time of year — take someone with you and make sure someone else knows your exact travel plans.

Mountain roads

The route up is a single-lane, winding mountain road — drive safely and stay alert. Expect high-clearance vehicles, RVs, horseback riders, mountain bikers and hikers. Arrive with a full tank and a well-maintained car. If you’re driving slower or towing a trailer, pull over when possible to let others pass.

Winter vehicle travel

Snow can close some roads and highways over mountain passes, and tire chains may be required. Carry chains at all times and be prepared to spend long periods in your car.

Pack for winter

  • Tire chains
  • Blankets or sleeping bags
  • A shovel
  • Water and food
  • Other necessities
  • A full tank of gas
