About Us

The Wolf Den Retreat

Twenty acres of oak, creek and starlight. A place to gather your pack, slow down, and come back to yourself.

Welcome to the Den

Every wolf has a den: a sheltered place to return to after the hunt, where the pack rests, heals and simply belongs. Wolf Den Retreat was created to be exactly that for the people who stay with us. It is a private, 20-acre country retreat in Julian, CA, built for groups who want more than a place to sleep. They want space to breathe, room to reconnect, and a setting that quietly asks them to put the phone down and look up.

Here, mornings start with birdsong under the oaks. Afternoons drift by along the creek. Evenings end around the table or beneath a sky so dark and so full of stars that most guests stop talking for a moment just to take it in. That pause is what we’re here for.

Our Story

Wolf Den Retreat is owned and cared for by Laura and Tiffany. When they first walked this land, they didn’t just see a property. They saw a gathering place: old oak trees that had been sheltering the hillside for generations, a creek that sings after the rains, open agricultural fields, and night skies untouched by city light.

They began by opening the home to guests, and something became clear quickly. People didn’t just enjoy their stay; they left changed. Families reconnected. Old friends picked up where they left off. Groups that arrived tired and scattered left rested and close. Laura and Tiffany realized the land was already doing what they had always hoped to do: help people heal and come together.

Wolf Den Retreat is the next chapter of that story: a retreat with intention, rooted in wellness, connection and the quiet power of nature.

Why the Wolf?

The wolf is our guide and our symbol. Wolves are often misunderstood as lone hunters, but they are some of the most social, loyal and devoted animals on earth. Their strength comes from the pack. They play, they rest together, they look after their young and their elders, and they call to one another across the dark. The wolf represents everything we want our guests to feel here:

  • Belonging. Whoever you bring, family, friends, a team or a community, this is your pack’s place.
  • Instinct. A return to the natural rhythms we too often ignore: rest when tired, wake with the light, eat together, wander.
  • Wildness. A reminder that there is still open land, running water and a sky full of stars, and that we’re part of it.
  • Restoration. The den is where the pack heals. Our guests come to do the same.

The Land

Wolf Den Retreat sits on 20 acres of open agricultural land. It is the kind of space you can’t find in a hotel or a neighborhood rental. There’s room to roam, room for the kids to run, and room to find a quiet spot of your own.

  • Old oak trees that offer shade on warm days and a sense of permanence every day.
  • A creek winding through the property, perfect for a slow morning walk or simply listening to the water.
  • Open fields that change with the seasons and give the land its working, rural character.
  • Dark skies. Far from city lights, the night sky here is one of the property’s greatest treasures. On clear nights the stars feel close enough to touch.

The Home

At the heart of the land is a home built for gathering. With seven bedrooms and space for up to 30 guests, Wolf Den Retreat brings everyone together under one roof, without anyone feeling crowded. Shared spaces invite long meals, game nights and late conversations, while the bedrooms give each guest a place to retreat when they need quiet.

It’s a rare thing to find a single property where an entire extended family, a full wedding party or a whole retreat group can stay together. That’s exactly what makes the Den special: no splitting up across hotels, no one left out. The whole pack, in one place.

Wellness Rooted in Tradition

Wellness at Wolf Den Retreat isn’t a trend or an add-on. It comes from Laura’s background in acupuncture and Chinese medicine, traditions that view health as balance: between body and mind, rest and activity, people and the natural world around them.

That philosophy shapes the whole retreat. The land itself is part of the practice: fresh air, slower days, time outdoors, deep sleep under dark skies, and real connection with the people you love. As the retreat grows, we are developing wellness offerings inspired by these traditions, designed to help guests restore their energy and leave feeling more grounded than when they arrived.

An Experience for All Five Senses

We believe a truly restorative stay engages every sense. Here’s how the Den is meant to be felt:

  • Sight: Sun through the oak canopy, golden fields at dusk, and a night sky full of stars.
  • Sound: The creek, the wind in the trees, birdsong at dawn, and the deep quiet of a country night.
  • Touch: Cool creek water, warm earth underfoot, soft linens after a long day outdoors.
  • Smell: Oak and earth after rain, wildflowers, woodsmoke on a cool evening.
  • Taste: Long, unhurried meals shared around one big table, the way a pack is meant to eat.

Under the Dark Skies

Wolves come alive at night, and so does Wolf Den Retreat. With almost no light pollution, the property offers the kind of stargazing most people only see in photographs. Spot constellations, watch for shooting stars, catch the Milky Way stretching overhead on a clear moonless night, or just lie back and listen to the silence. For many guests, the night sky becomes the most memorable part of their stay.

Who We Welcome

Wolf Den Retreat was made for groups who want to be together, fully and comfortably:

  • Family reunions and multi-generational getaways
  • Wellness, yoga and mindfulness retreats
  • Friends’ getaways and milestone celebrations
  • Corporate offsites and team-building retreats
  • Creative and community gatherings that need space to think and connect

Meet Your Hosts

Laura

Laura brings a background in acupuncture and Chinese medicine to everything at Wolf Den Retreat. Her work has always centered on helping people find balance and restore their natural energy, and the retreat is an extension of that calling. To Laura, the land is a healer in its own right, and her hope is that every guest leaves feeling lighter, calmer and more connected than when they arrived.

Tiffany

Tiffany has been a host and Julian destination ambassador since 2020 and also has a background in health and wellness.

Together, Laura and Tiffany care for the Den the way a pack cares for its home: with attention, warmth and pride. They are glad to help you plan your stay and make it your own.

What We Believe

  • Connection comes first. The best memories are made together, so we design every space to bring people closer.
  • Rest is essential. Slowing down isn’t a luxury. It’s how we restore ourselves.
  • Nature heals. Fresh air, open land and dark skies do things for the body and mind that nothing else can.
  • Hospitality is personal. You’re not a reservation number here. You’re part of the pack.

Caring for the Land

The land is the reason Wolf Den Retreat exists, and we are committed to protecting it. We ask every guest to help us keep it wild and beautiful: respect the oaks and the creek, keep outdoor lighting low to protect our dark skies, leave wildlife undisturbed, and leave every trail and gathering spot as you found it. In return, the land will give you something you can’t get anywhere else.
